The Recycle Group is made up of the artists Andrey Blokhin, born in 1987 in Krasnodar, Russia, and Georgiy Kuznetsov, born in 1985 in Stavropol, Russia. Andrey graduated from the Academy of Industrial Arts in Krasnodar, while Georgiy graduated from Stavropol Art College.
Their art is characterized by a sophisticated provocation that aims to find a compromise between apparently incompatible subjects: the classical with the contemporary, the Western European artistic tradition with Russia’s domestic realities. The “Reverse”, exhibition at the M&J Guelman Gallery in Moscow, was a pivotal show for the artistic explorations and experimentations in which iconic images of classical art clashed with the reality of contemporary life.
Their art exploits advances in modern technology that were used in "Reverse" to seeing in a trash can a “sarcophagus”, with bas-relief yet representing bizarre scenes of modern life. Although very young, they have exhibited in several solo and group shows in galleries and museums like the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture - GCCC, the M&J Guelman Gallery, and the M`ARS gallery, in Moscow, as well as the Kovalenko Art Museum in Krasnodar, Russia.
